About the BMI calculator
This calculator estimates Body Mass Index from height and weight and compares the result with common adult BMI screening ranges.
How to use it
- Choose metric units or imperial units.
- Enter your weight and height using the units shown beside each field.
- Select Calculate BMI to see the BMI value, screening category, and reference weight range.
Formula
BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ (height in metres × height in metres)
Example
A person weighing 70 kg and measuring 1.75 m has a BMI of about 22.9 (70 ÷ 1.75²).
Important notes
BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis. Adult BMI ranges do not account for every factor such as muscle mass, age, pregnancy, or health conditions; speak with a qualified healthcare professional for personal advice.
